Herndon J. Evans Lodge

Lodge in the SpringYou will be charmed by the skilled craftsmanship of stone and wood throughout Herndon J. Evans Lodge.  Each of the 30 rooms has a private patio or balcony to enjoy  mountain views. Open year-round.  AAA 3 - Diamond rating. Rooms are available by late afternoon. Check-out by noon, Eastern Time.  Pets are not allowed (with the exception of service dogs). Cottages

Enjoy rustic charm in one or two-bedroom cottages. The nine one-bedroom log cabins have stone fireplaces and private decks. The eleven two-bedroom cottages have porches or decks surrounded by woodland settings. Grills are furnished for the cabins and cottages. Cottages are available by late afternoon. Check-out by 11:00 AM, Eastern Time. Pets are not allowed (with the exception of service dogs).

Mountain View Restaurant

The atmosphere of the restaurant is one of engaging serenity and gentle seclusion. Seating is available for 125 people with good viewing from every location. A private dining area seats 25 people. With a new menu and a wider variety of items, you will enjoy your meal while overlooking spectacular mountain scenery.  Views of the mountains change throughout the day - from breakfast with mist-shrouded peaks to dinner with spectacular sunsets.  As a supporter of Kentucky Proud program we utilize locally grown meats and produce when available.

Kentucky State Parks Golf Trail

This resort is home of the championship 18-hole golf course Wasioto Winds Golf Course (pronounced Wah-see-OH-tuh, means Valley of the Deer), ranked by Golf Digest as the fourth Best New Affordable Public Golf Course in the nation in January 2004. Designed by Michael Hurdzan, Ph.D., it is a links-style course in a valley between two mountains. Other course features include wide car paths, a practice range, two practice putting greens, and an indoor-use training center. Eighteen-hole golf packages are offered year-round.

Things To Do

Pine Mountain is a hiker’s paradise with 15 miles of self-guided trails. View Trail Information. Hike to Chained Rock, the Hemlock Garden or various other trails with names like Honeymoon Falls, Rock Hotel, and Living Stairway. The new Pine Mountain Trail, will pass near the park when completed. Cool off with a dip in our new pool (completely A.D.A.-accessible)! The swimming pool adjacent to the lodge, is for the exclusive use of overnight park guests. Seasonal.

Wildlife ArtA 180-print collection produced by world-famous wildlife artist Ray Harm is on permanent display throughout Evans lodge, restaurant, and convention center.

Kentucky Journalist Herndon J. Evans donated the first Harm prints in 1969. The completed collection, representing 30 years of work, was dedicated in the late 1990s.

Ray Harm lived with his family in the area around Pine Mountain in the late 1960s through the 1970s.

Game Room

Located in the lower level of the C.V. Whitney Conference Center (accessed from the outside). This area provides a coin-operated billiard table, ping-pong table, foosball table, card/checker/chess tables, and video games for your enjoyment. Board games and playing cards are available for guest checkout from the guest services desk.

Gift Shop

The gift shop offers the best selection of books on this area featuring the wilderness gap. It also features a variety of Kentucky made candies, sauces, honey and jellies.

Picnicking & Playgrounds

Tables, shelters, grills, and rest rooms are located near Laurel Cove. Playgrounds are located throughout the park. Shelters are available for rental up to three years in advance.

Planned Recreation

Tthe Park’s Office of Recreation and Interpretation takes great pride in providing safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences for all park visitors. It is the goal of the program services staff to enhance the park visitor’s experience by interpreting the park's natural, cultural, and historical resources and to provide a wide variety of creative recreational opportunities.

Daily program activities are offered Memorial Day through Labor Day unless otherwise posted. For a weekly schedule of activities please see the Guest Services Desk or the Naturalist/Recreation staff.

Interpretive Center

Intrepretive CenterThe Pine Mountain Interpretive Center combines innovative exhibits and an interactive kiosk, providing visitors to tell the park’s rich natural history story. The center is the perfect place to begin a visit to the park with information available on the park’s unique geology, mountain formation, wildlife, forest communities, wildflowers, and many other topics. The center is open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm daily.

Mountain traditions abound this weekend as the sweet music of Appalachian lap and hammered dulcimers softly chime in the hands of some of the finest performers in the country.
