Upcoming Special Events for 2008

Mountain Biking on the Fossil Trail
4/1/2008 to 11/30/2008

We invite you to experience our Fossil Trail at General Butler State Resort Park. Come gear down with us during these open times for Mountain Biking April - November. Riders under 16 years of age must have adult/guardian rider supervision at all times. Riders must wear helmets, and adhere to no ride dates as posted at Lodge Front Desk, Recreation Center and/or Bike Butler's website www.bikebutler.com. Caution is required since trail is open to hikers. Enjoy our challenging terrain and scenic beauty. One loop for the Fossil Trail is 4.5 miles and considered moderate skill level.

Dancing & Silent Auction Benefits Carroll County Relay for Life - 4/26/08

Good, Clean Family Fun to benefit Carroll County’s Relay for Life. Event will be held at the General Butler Conference Center from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm. Door Admission is $5.00 Adult (16yrs & older) & $3.00 Child (under 16yrs). All children must be accompanied by adult for admission. No alcohol is allowed. DJ is Jason Shields disc jockey and owner of Music in Motion from Louisville, Kentucky. Concessions will be sold at event, so come to have fun and help raise money for an awesome cause!

Facility Opportunities

Butler-Turpin State Historic House Site

Revel in the history of one of Kentucky’s foremost military families from Colonial times through the Revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican War and Civil War. The antebellum home, grounds and family cemetery is an historic site of remembrance for this prominent Kentucky family. 9 Hole Golf Course, Stone Overlook, Nature Trails, Butler Lake for fishing & personal boating (non-motorized), Picnic Shelters, Recreation Center, Playgrounds & Camping.

Seasonal Amenities: Memorial - Labor Day

18 Hole Mini Golf Course opens April 12th on weekends, hours Saturday 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm & Sunday 1:00 pm-7:00 pm, Adults $3.50 & Child $2.50. Opens daily after Memorial Day, hours Sunday-Thursday 10:00 am-7:00 pm and Friday-Saturday 10:00 am-9:00 pm. Lodge Pool is available to Lodge & Cottage guests only, Camper Swim Times for Lodge Pool are 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm daily. Boat rentals available Sunday-Thursday 10:00 am-7:00 pm and Friday & Saturday 10:00 am-9:00 pm, cost $10.00 hr 4 seater paddleboat, canoe or rowboat. .Summer Planned Recreation is available Tuesday-Saturday.

Group Prices: Unlimited Day Usage for Seasonal Amenities (20 or more group size)

Must be pre-arranged with Parks Program Service Supervisor prior to park visit.

Teambuilding Opportunities

General Butler State Resort Park is a full service resort that’s ready to meet your needs! The Recreation Department can do this with Teambuilding Programs & Outdoor Opportunities. Remember all work and no play makes for very long days! So, let us organize a few hours of fun, and enjoy your time while experiencing the chance to play! The Recreation Department can plan for any function big or small! Whether it’s corporate, classroom, church, or organization/clubs whatever you need let us bring it together!

Monte Carlo Night

Blackjack, poker & roulette! We supply the play money & prizes you supply the luck! Group Size: 20 or more in group. Timeframe: 2 to 2 1/2 hrs.  Fee: $8.00 per person (prizes included).

Night Owl or Wacky Golf Scrambles

Designed for fun so any golfer or non-golfer can excel! Timeframe: 1hr Mini Golf & 4hrs 9Hole Golf Course.  Mini Golf Fee: $5.00 per person (prizes included). Golf Fee: $42.00 per person (cookout & prizes) or $30.00 per person (prizes).

Scavenger Hunts

Pick a theme The Amazing Race, Poker Run, Photo, or the traditional list of items. Timeframe: 1 to 2 1/2hrs. Fee: $3.00 to $5.00 per person (prizes included).

Instructional Archery

Ready to think out of the box? Follow the 11 Steps to Archery Success, it could transform, redirect your group’s thinking! Group Size: 20 or less Timeframe: 2hrs. Fee: $5.00 per person

Campfire

Relax with a roaring fire & s’mores! If all your group needs is a place to socialize we suggest a campfire! Fee: $3.00 per person

Hikes

Day or evening hikes can be arranged. Fossil Trail 4.5 mile loop (complete loop challenging). Woodland Trail 1.5 mile (moderate). Boy Scout Trail .25 mile (moderate). Timeframe: 1/2hr to 3hrs. Fee: $3.00 per person.

Survivor Challenges

Promotes team unity as well as individual strengths. Action packed competitions: Canoe Races, Great Shootout, Outdoor Skills and Outrageous Obstacle Course. Group Size: 20 or more in group. Timeframe: 2 to 2 1/2 hrs. Fee: $8.00 person (prizes included).

Family Feud

What group doesn’t feud now & then? Let us create some friendly feuding! Game is taken from the popular game show “Family Feud.”  Group Size: 10 to 20. Timeframe: 1 to 2hrs.  Fee: $3.00 per person (prizes included).

Arts & Crafts

Who’s ready to get their fingers dirty? Eastern Bluebird Boxed -$5.00 per person. Tye Dye T-Shirts -$5.00 per person. Kentucky Walking Sticks -$3.00 per person.

Entertainment/Speakers or Inflatable's

Let us do the searching… If your group needs music, magic, history or inflatables we’ll find it for you!  Fee: Varies (Contract & Payment Group’s responsibility)

Meet Your Recreation Staff

 

Tanya Supplee has been the Parks Program Services Supervisor at General Butler State Resort Park since September 1997. She worked here as a seasonal from 1980-1987 as a Lifeguard and Recreation Leader. Tanya graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1990 with a degree BA in Education. Feel free to call her, if needing assistance or suggestions on accommodating your recreational needs while visiting General Butler State Resort Park.

 

Trail Information

I appreciate suggestions or comments related to trail conditions or concerns. Our rider’s policy for mountain biking is posted at each trailhead location on the Fossil Trail; please adhere to the policies as they are for safety & trail management. Only trail open to Mountain Biking is the Fossil Trail, and the Rider’s Policy must be adhered to at all times. Mountain Biking is open to April-November. Fossil Trail is closed to Mountain Biking the following months: January, February, March and December. Trail Details

 

Butler Lake Trail Project

As they say "Never give up!"  We were not fortunate to receive federal grant money for 2007, but moving forward in hopes of securing funding for 2008. The vision of this project will emphasize the historical value with interpretative signage; provide a safe travel route, along with being a fitness trail for all abilities.
