KRPS/Barren River Innovative Programming Workshop

Nature Watch Weekend - Sandhill Cranes

This weekend will be a sampling of everything outdoors. Want to try canoeing, we have it. Want to know more about birding and birdwatching, it's here. This will be a fun family weekend with over 20 different nature related sessions. Bring the family and have a great time. All sessions are free unless noted on the final agenda. Barren River Lake's Youth Fishing Derby

This is a fun day for youth ages 15 and under. A cooperative effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Glasgow Recreation Department and Barren River Lake State Resort Park provides youth an opportunity to learn about fishing. We provide the poles (or you can bring your own) the bait and drinking water.

Barren River Lake SRP Bowfishing 101

Bow fishing 101 is a FREE introduction to bow fishing. The event includes a classroom style seminar using power point for questions and answers, and also a hands-on demonstration with instruction for bow fishing. Once you are familiar with shooting, we'll take you for a target shoot with prizes awarded.

Barren River Lake 4th of July Celebration
7/4/2009

Our annual 4th of July Fireworks Celebration. We start off the day with a beach party (weather permitting) and plenty of fun and games. There will be live entertainment at 6:00 followed by the fireworks display at 9:00 p.m. Our activities will continue throughout the weekend with our annual "whatever floats your boat" contest on Saturday. Other activities such as the pre-4th block party on the 3rd include karaoke and the non-motorized parade.

Barren River Trashmasters Classic

Join us, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Friends of Barren River and WBKO 13 for the annual lakeshore cleanup. We will spend the morning collecting trash then meet at the beach for lunch and entertainment. Door prizes will be awarded. This year's event will coincide with the Geocaching (Cash In Trash Out) event. Be sure to join us for that as well.

Barren River's Overnight Canoe/Camping Trip
9/26/2009 to 9/27/2009

Join us for this family canoe weekend. You will spend the day canoeing either a tributary of Barren River Lake or on the Green River and camp under the stars We provide all equipment and training. Pre-registration is required. For ages 8 and up. Since this is a family trip with younger paddlers, the paddling distance will total between 7-10 miles.

Barren River Lake SRP Trail of Scarecrows
10/1/2009 to 10/31/2009

The trail of scarecrows is the fundraiser for Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign (KECC). Entries will be displayed from Oct. 1 - Oct. 31 along the paved trail at the park for everyone to see. Prizes will be awarded to the best scarecrows. Plan early and show off your talents. All scarecrows must be up by October 1st. We will be taking appointments to put them up on Sept. 29 and 30.

Barren River's Overnight Canoe/Camping Trip II
10/3/2009 to 10/4/2009

Join us as we canoe either the scenic Green River within the boundaries of Mammoth Cave National Park or a tributary to Barren River Lake and camp under the stars. We provide all equipment and training. Pre-registration is required. This trip is for ages 16 and above.

There is only one way to find out - join us for the survivor challenge - a series of competitions throughout the day that will have you facing off with your neighbors to see who is truly a survivor. Join us for this annual spooktacular weekend where the ghosts and goblins take over the campground. There will be costume contests, pumpkin roll contests, trick or treating and a variety of other activities for ghouls of all sizes.

Barren River Lake's 4th Annual Geocaching

Join us for this fun weekend of "caching" on the park. Special caches will be hidden for you to find. We will have poker caches as well as prizes for first to find on some caches. There will be a costume contest and chili dinner as well. So set that GPS system to Barren River Lake State Park and join us for this fun family event.

Barren River's 3rd Annual Youth Boot Camp
11/7/2009

Bring your young soldier, ages 6 to 12 to this fun morning of "boot camp." Our drill sergeants will have the troops in line in no time. "Soldiers" will be doing a lot of fun skills such as PT, paint ball gun, obstacle course, drill and hand signals. The morning will wrap up with drill followed by a light lunch.
