Ukrainian Egg Decorating Class

Come and learn this time honored tradition of Ukrainian Egg decorating just in time for Easter! Berea artist, Clifford Crawford, will be teaching this time honored heritage skill. You will learn the concept of batiking using wax and dyes on an eggshell done with traditional tools in the Ukrainian style of egg decorating. The finished product will look like a highly decorated Easter egg. A sample is on display at the Harrison and Nicholas County Extension Office. Classes are offered on Monday, March 3, 2008 at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park. Please register by February 25, 2008. Cost is $15. Over 4000 Easter Eggs filled with candy or toys will be hidden for girls and boys under the age of 12 to hunt. There will be 4 different age categories for children: 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 & 9-12. Eggs for each category will be hidden in different locations surrounding the Pioneer Museum. Prizes awarded for those that find the 1st 2nd, and 3rd place eggs in each category. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 11a.m. in front of the Pioneer Museum.

2nd Annual Area Art Show

Sponsored by the Courthouse Square Arts Guild and Blue Licks Commemorative Commission Inc. This show is a call to artists in the local community so that their work can be proudly displayed to park visitors and tourists. The amount of talent that exists in the surrounding communities is phenomenal. All art will be publicly displayed with some for viewing only while other works will be available for sell. Attendance to the art show is free while area artists pay a nominal fee of $5 per piece for the showing of their work. All money raised from this event goes to the Blue Licks Commemorative Commission Inc., which exists to assist in the commemoration and preservation of the history of the Blue Licks, Kentucky, area; and to serve as a friend to Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park and its perpetuation and improvement. Battle Re-enactment Celebration

Blue Licks Battlefield pays tribute to the brave pioneers who fought and died at the Battle of Blue Licks, August 19, 1782, during this weekend of special programs and demonstrations. A craft area features local crafters, artisans and vendors along with special music and a battle re-enactment at 3 p.m. each day. Stroll through the pioneer encampment and see how pioneers lived over 200 years ago. Special museum programs featuring hands-on demonstrations. Package Fee: $5 for ages 13 and above, which includes viewing the battle reenactment, unlimited access to the Pioneer Museum, 18-hole Mini Golf Course, Jr. Olympic Size Swimming Pool, and all activities and programs for the entire day.

National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. Volunteers have built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants. Join us for the 15th Annual National Public Lands Day at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park. We are seeking volunteers for September 27th (and various other dates throughout the year) to assist in keeping our park beautiful by picking up litter on our hiking and walking trails or painting small buildings around the park.
