The park has two trails totaling 3.8 miles of hiking opportunities. The trailhead for both trails is located just west of the campground check-in station at the tree line. The trails are designated for hiking only. Please obey the trail regulations listed below. Visit the campground station or the park office for additional information, or to report any problems.
Beech-Hemlock Trail (.8-miles)
This is a .8-mile long trail that meanders through the woods between the campground and the lake. The trail is named for two tree species, which dominate the woodland community here. This trail is perfect for an easy, leisurely walk. Allow 30-40 minutes. Along the lakeshore observe sandstone rock formations like “lizard head” rock. The trail ends at the southeastern end of the campground
Lick Falls Overlook Trail (3-miles)
This 3-mile loop trail leads to a pretty seasonal waterfall near the western boundary of the park. The best time to see the waterfall is in the winter or spring. It is usually dry during the summer months. This is a moderately strenuous trail. A minimum of 2 hours should be allowed to hike it. Much of the trail follows along the top of a cliff line along the lake. Hikers should be aware of the tall cliffs and stay on the trail, which is several feet away from the edge. Hikers will see very scenic vistas of the lake along this section. Much of the remainder of the trail follows an abandoned roadbed through the forest where hikers may encounter deer, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, and other wildlife.
