Recreation to Go Family Night

Beginning Birding

Do you love to watch the birds or would you like to start watching and identifying them? Join us as we walk the trails and to catch a glimpse of the winter birds. Meet at 10:00 am at Picnic Grove across from the archery range. Cost is $2.00 per person.
17th Annual Irish Classic 10K

E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park will be hosting the 17th Annual Irish Classic 10K. Registration is $20 before February 20th and $25 after. Each pre-registered participate receives a t-shirt; late registrants while supplies last. Awards are given to the overall male and female and top finishers in each age group. National Kite Month Kickoff

April is National Kite Month and we here at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park want to kick it off right, so on March 28th we will again be hosting our annual Kite Day. Participate in the Family Fun Fly. Prizes for the most unique kite, youngest flyer, oldest flyer and crowd favorite. Professional demonstrations will conclude the event. This is a FREE event. Noon - 3 p.m.
Goose Creek 5K

Runners are invited to compete in a unique series of 5K runs featured at four Kentucky State Parks. E.P. "Tom" Sawyer is the first race in the Kentucky State Park Race Series. Race begins at 9:00 a.m. on April 4th. Each pre-registered participant receives a t-shirt, late registrants, while supplies last. Awards will be given to the overall male and female and top two finishers in each age group. Cost: $15 early registration/ $20 after March 20, 2009 and day-of. $50 registration fee for the entire series. Pre-registration for the race series ends at 9:00 a.m. on April 4th.

Earth Day Celebration

Join park staff, environmental groups, and area businesses as we celebrate Earth Day. Throughout the day we will have hikes to the vernal pond, a dumpster dive, a live animal demonstration, a park clean-up, and a geocaching demonstration. Additionally, area businesses will be presenting on how they are becoming more "green." Event is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Call 502-429-7270 for more information.
Storytelling and S'mores

On May 30th, come and join us for an evening of storytelling and s’mores in E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park’s Picnic Grove. A professional storyteller will be on hand to delight you with his wonderful stories as you sit around a campfire roasting marshmallows and enjoying some delicious s’mores. There will be a fee of $5 per family.
Triathlon XXVIII

E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park is proud to host its 28th annual Triathlon on August 1, 2009. The race is a USAT sanctioned event that consists of a ½ mile swim, 14 mile bike ride and 5K run. All phases of the race will be held either on the park grounds or on the surrounding roads. Both individuals and teams are welcome, with registration opening on May 26th and running through July 11th. The race fee is $55 for individuals and $90 for teams. In addition, a $10 one-day insurance fee is required for all non-USAT members. All race participants will receive an official triathlon shirt and prizes will be awarded both to age group winners and overall winners.
NBL/BMX Grand Nationals

Doggy Paddle Swim Day

Even our canine friends need a chance to show off their swimming skills! E.P “Tom” Sawyer State Park is letting its Olympic size pool go to the dogs. This is a great opportunity for you to get your dog out of the house and take them for a swim. The cost is only $5 per dog and you will need to bring proof of your dog’s current vaccinations. Your dog will think that they never had it so good!
Run For The Rawhide

The Louisville Dog Run Association and E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park will be hosting Run For The Rawhide, a 5K run / 1 mile walk. Race Categories are as follows: Male/dog 5K, female/dog 5K, men’s 5K, women’s 5K, children (under 15) 5K, and 1-mile leisure walk. There will be dog related activities, contest and door prizes.
