Located in Western Kentucky, Ben Hawes State Park offers opportunities for fun and education. On the park grounds are the remains of a deep coal mine operation that thrived from the early 1900s through the 1950s. Several buildings remain that can be reached by hiking trails. Park benches are conveniently located around the mine site. Along the wooded countryside of the park, there is an outdoor classroom where nature classes can be held.
One of busiest golf courses in the state park system, this excellent course offers 6,632 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. You chose the 18-hole course or a par 3 nine-hole course. The Pro Shop offers pull carts, golf cars and rental clubs plus a full line of golf apparel and the latest in clubs and balls. More information.
Enjoy a little bit of the country on the one and half mile hiking trail through the park. Mountain Bike Trail - This trail is comprised of a series of three loops – three trails that interconnect equaling 4 miles – easy to moderate rating.

The shelter can be reserved for renting up to 1 year in advance. Open year-round. There is a fee charged for shelter rentals. The meeting facility at Ben Hawes was once home to the owner of a local underground mining company. The home, now on the National Register, includes two small meeting rooms. This two-story brick structure with its massive porch is waiting for you and your meeting - only minutes from downtown Owensboro. Perfect for golf outings – book your meeting, golf scramble and luncheon reception. The meeting rooms (555 and 480 square feet) are not equipped with telephone or computer hook-ups. Small weddings are ideal for the wooded cove area. Follow with the reception in the meeting facility. Ask our staff for a listing of local caterers.
