Special Programming

Lick the Wild: All new survival classes for 2008 : sign up today!

Forget ‘Survivor’; see if you have what it REALLY takes to survive in the wilderness as the prehistoric people of the Northern Kentucky region did. Lick the Wild is a brand new series of special event sessions that will showcase various survival skills that were once known in our region. Come on out to see if you have what it takes to Lick the Wild. *Registration for each event is limited. Participants can come to any number of sessions. Small fees apply to each session. Email todd.young@ky.gov for further information.

Trail Information

All trails are fairly muddy due to recent rains. Hikers are reporting seeing many deer and turkeys along the trails. This is also a good time of year to see the red tailed hawks soaring overhead. Please be careful.

Bison Herd

The new calving season is almost upon us and we are expecting several new baby bison between late April and mid May. The best time to see the bison up near the fence is in the early morning when they are fed around 8:00 - 8:15 am. There are currently thirteen bison in the herd with one bison calf.

Nature Center

The nature center at Big Bone Lick State Park is open on a limited off season basis. Interpretive themes in the nature center deal with flora and fauna local to the Northern Kentucky region. Fossil hunts, animal tracking, creek walks and many other nature related programs are run out of the nature center during the peak summer months. Contact Todd Young at todd.young@ky.gov to set up an off season viewing of the nature center.
