Group Field Trips
Constitution Square commemorates a most important series of events in Kentucky's history: the 10 constitutional conventions which led to statehood. On June 1, 1792, Kentucky became the 15th state in the union. Isaac Shelby was named the first governor of the Commonwealth. Visit original buildings like Grayson's Tavern, Fisher's Row Houses, Goldsmith House and the first post office west of the Alleghenies along with replicas of the jail, courthouse and meeting house.
A history scavenger hunt is conducted for field trips, by appointment only. This is an outside activity and students work in groups of two or three which incorporates cooperative learning and includes creative writing and thinking exercises for grades k-8. Allow one hour for this activity. Group rate for 10 or more is $1.50 per student. Teachers, chaperones and bus drivers are free.
A self-guided tour is available at no charge. Tour must be scheduled in advance. An educational brochure is available. Geared for all ages. The site is open year-round and classes can visit any weekday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Call Brenda Willoughby at 859-239-7089 for information.
